RESEARCH
Problem
Self-doubt is a common problem among children and can have a negative impact on their emotional and social development. Under the competitive education system, it is difficult to prevent children from comparing themselves with others. They feel inadequate or inferior if they don’t measure up which may increase their pressure and self-confidence. But how can we help children overcome self-doubt? How can we provide a supportive and encouraging environment for children to cultivate more self-identity?
The purpose of this project is to encourage children to accept and appreciate their strengths and weaknesses. Friendship and teamwork play a significant role in helping children overcome self-doubt. The storybook app allows children to understand that working with peers provides a supportive environment and creates a sense of belonging which can build self-esteem, develop positive relationships, and gain confidence in their abilities.

Interviews and Workshops
I interviewed and conducted a reading workshop with children aged 6 to 13. The reading workshop consists of two main sections, share how you would use your superpower to help others and form groups to recreate the story. The book that I shared was “The Five of Us” by Quentin Blake which conveys the importance of teamwork and understanding ourselves. During the workshops, I observed that children are more active in reiterating the stories as a team. They worked together to solve problems and they feel like they are part of something bigger and more important than themselves which helps to develop positive relationships and communicate effectively with others.
